dr. Giannakis

Postdoc
Microwave Sensing, Signals and Systems (MS3), Department of Microelectronics

Biography

Iraklis Giannakis was born in Greece and took his bachelor and master degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at 2009 and 2011 respectively. He did his PhD in the University of Edinburgh and currently he is a post-doc researcher at the Microwave Sensing, Signals and Systems (MS3) department. In 2008 he received the best undergraduate thesis award and at 2014 he received the young scientist award at the 14th International Conference of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). He was also shortlisted for the R. W. P. King award at 2015. His research interests include the development and application of near surface geophysical techniques namely, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), Self Potential method (SP) and potential field methods. He is also exploring issues that fall under the scope of Computational Electrodynamics and more specifically Finite Difference Time Domain method (FDTD). He is currently working on the numerical modelling of GPR for landmine detection and its application to machine learning.
