Sensor Technology Applied in Reconfigurable Systems (STARS)
The objective of STARS is to develop within four years the necessary knowledge and technology that can be used as a baseline for the development of reconfigurable sensors and sensor networks applied in the context of the security domain. Six research themes have been identified. Four specific research area for reconfigurability and two research areas to contribute to the intermediate level between research and the realization of possible applications and the valorization of all knowledge developed during this project.
Nowadays there are several examples of the introduction of reconfigurable techniques. The latest antenna systems for wireless telecommunications and radar offer some degree of reconfigurability where the beam can be adjusted very quickly to the amount of information needed. In digital technology a trend can be recognized towards chips in which processor features can be changed after production and where during usage, functionality can be changed in fractions of seconds.
However these developments only cover parts of reconfigurability. In the STARS project reconfigurability will be researched on 4 different levels. Together these levels will form the knowledge and technology with which a reconfigurable sensor network can be developed.
Although the project initially aimed at the application area of sustainable social security, other application area will be provided for as well.
